Gazprom can halt gas supplies to Moldova in 48hr if bill not paid
MOSCOW, Nov 22 (PRIME) -- Russian gas giant Gazprom has notified Moldova that it can suspend gas supplies in 48 hours unless the Monday due bill is paid, as a recently signed contract envisages 100% payment for current gas bills, the company’s representative Sergei Kupriyanov said, as broadcasted by Rossiya 24 television channel on Monday.
“The next due day for payment is today, November 22. There is no payment. With that said, Gazprom has notified the Moldovan side…that supplies of gas will be suspended in 48 hours,” Kupriyanov said.
He added that “Gazprom has decided to sign a contract almost on the Moldovan side’s conditions but with a very important article. Moldova is obliged to pay its current bills for gas by 100% and timely.”
While signing the contract, Gazprom took into account “the really difficult economic and financial situation of Moldova” and was guided by its “willingness to retain for Moldova opportunities to repay its debt, and the position of the Russian president,” he added.
Kupriyanov also said that Gazprom is really disappointed with non-fulfillment of contract obligations by Moldova.
